So what is a nurse practitioner? Nurse practitioners (AKA NP, CNP, APRN) are the healthcare providers of choice for many patients across the world. NPs don’t just treat the illness, they treat the whole person, providing a unique approach of both nursing and medicine. They have advanced nursing degrees and board certification in their area of specialty. NPs bring a unique perspective to the care of individuals across the lifespan.

Nurse Practitioners:

  • Order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays
  • Diagnose and treat both acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, infections and injuries
  • Prescribe medications and other treatments
  • Manage patient’s care
  • Make referrals as needed
